Mess-free kitchen, Here I come!!!

Working along with raising kids can be mind-numbing at times. There have been countless times I have been plain confused about what to do next and how to bring some normalcy into my chaotic life.

But that’s the thing about life. The more you live it, the more you know how to live it. For example, there have been many occasions where I worked late in the night and slept through my 10 five-minutes-interval alarms in the morning.

And when I finally woke up, I found that my daughter was running late for school and so was my husband (running late for office, I mean).

The worst part was that my kitchen was an absolute mess. Dishes were all piled up and waiting for me in the sink and so was the stench of our dinner last night.

And I had nothing readily available in my kitchen to fix them a quick breakfast. Talk about a total disaster.

that day both my daughter and husband left without having any breakfast. and I was left guilty of ignoring my motherly duties yet again.

So I went inside, opened my laptop and started making this list of the things I needed to do to make my kitchen a little bit more organized in the morning.

I printed a copy of it and pasted it on my kitchen board. I started following it diligently and needless to say, my kitchen started running like a clockwork after a few days of hits and misses.

Of course, there are still days where I get lost but such occasions are rare now that I have an actionable plan in place.

There were all sorts of tasks I had assigned myself to do and I even allocated some of the tasks to be completed by my husband and even my two kids. I love delegating 😊

but be reminded that most of the tasks need to be done a night before.

So if you are like how I was and are absolutely clueless about finding an organized and efficient kitchen in the morning, read on to find out how I made my kitchen into the most organized morning kitchen.

  1. Wash your dishes – This is an absolute must. Wash your dirty dishes before you go to sleep. No leaving them on counters or piling up in the sink.

Wash as you go and before you go to sleep, and you will be having clean utensils to start your breakfast preparation next day.

Assign some of the duties to your partner and kids as well. Like bringing crockery to the sink after we have had dinner is my daughter’s job.

And luckily, cleaning the table top is my son’s favorite thing to do in the world. He can literally do it for hours which makes my job all the more easier.

  1. Sweep the floors – Imagine going barefoot (which I mostly do) in the kitchen in the morning and putting your feet on bread crumbs from last night.

How irritating!! And that too before I have had my first cup of coffee in the morning.

Avoiding this is simpler than you think. Keep a broom handy ( you will find it easier to do if you have a broom rather than setting up a vacuum cleaner) and sweep the floor at the end of the day when you are leaving the kitchen.

I also wipe it with my trusty kitchen mop to clean any sticky mess left behind by my kids. But that’s totally up to you.

  1. Disposing of your trash– Imagine waking up to a completely clean kitchen with a very stinky smell. Does nothing for you, right?

Throwing trash bags at the end of your day is not only hygienic but will also make sure that your kitchen doesn’t smell of the dinner you had last night.

  1. Preparing the breakfast – who prepares breakfast at night? Well, I do. I plan out what my family is gonna be having for breakfast the next day and keep everything as ready as they can be.

I soak oats overnight if its oatmeal we are having or make and freeze smoothies a night before.

This way, I don’t have to rush things and I never find myself without key ingredients as I did on the morning of my epiphany.

  1. Preparing lunchbox – I make it a point to prepare my kids’ lunch box a night before so that I have to worry about one less thing in the morning.

This way, I don’t have to waste my precious morning time thinking of what to fix her for lunch. You can also prepare your work bags, school bags at this time.

This helps immensely if you slept through in the morning and are running a bit late.

  1. Delicious smell – Now, to be frank, I don’t follow this tip every night but quite a few times when I particularly find my kitchen to be stinky.

All I do is put some vanilla extract and some cinnamon in the oven tray and turn it on for a few minutes.

And Voila! You have a delicious, warm and absolutely lovely aroma in your kitchen.
